Soil Preparation: Essential for a Healthy Lawn
A successful sod installation starts with proper preparation. We used a Harley rake to break up compacted soil, remove moss, and turn over existing turf, weeds, and roots. This process ensures the soil is loose, nutrient-rich, and ready for new sod to establish deep roots.
We then added 20 yards of Turf Max soil, which provides essential nutrients and promotes optimal growth for Zoysia and Bermuda grasses. After spreading the soil, we graded and leveled the backyard to ensure proper drainage and a smooth surface for the new sod.

We installed approximately 8,000 square feet of Zoysia Zeon sod, carefully rolling each section to ensure good soil-to-root contact. To support rapid establishment and long-term health, we applied starter fertilizer, lime, fungicide, and insecticide.
